Makai is the 18-hole championship course at Princeville Makai Golf Club on Kauai's North Shore. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed it, and the course dates to 1971 with a redesign that reopened in 2010. It plays along oceanfront cliffs, lakes and native woodland, with views of Bali Hai and Hanalei Bay and paspalum turf on fairways and greens. It is par 72 and 7,223 yards from the back tees (75.4 rating, 134 slope).

Know before you go
- Bring proper golf attire.
- The first tee time is 8:05 AM; the course opens at 7:00 AM.
- Warm up on the range before your round; use is included with the 18-hole rate.
- Plan on about 4.5 hours for the round.
- Do not bring outside food or drinks onto the course.
- Call the shop at 808-826-1912 if weather looks doubtful.
- Rental clubs are available if you did not travel with your own.

Practice facilities
There are two practice tees, a practice fairway bunker, seven target greens with bunkers, a teaching tee and a short game area. Range use before your round is included with the 18-hole rate.
Rentals & pro shop
Callaway rental sets are available for men, women and juniors, right- and left-handed, with an 18-hole rental including six Makai logo balls. The golf shop sells apparel from brands such as Greg Norman, Adidas, Under Armour, Travis Mathew and Peter Millar.
Food & drink
The Makai Grill serves entrees, pupus and a full bar in an open-air setting. Outside food and drinks are not allowed on the course.
Pace of play
A typical round takes about 4.5 hours.
Policies
The course is open daily from 7:00 AM, with the first tee time at 8:05 AM, and hours can change during aeration. Rain checks are issued only if management closes the course or deems it unplayable. Juniors 6 to 12 play free with a paying adult after 10:00 AM, and juniors 13 to 17 with an adult pay half the adult rate. The nine-hole Woods course is separate from this 18-hole course.
