Plan your round at Masterpiece

The resort asks golfers to check in with the clubhouse at least 30 minutes before their tee time, and arriving earlier is welcomed since range balls are provided before the round. Golfers who arrive late may be started on a hole other than the first in order to maintain the tee sheet, with the staff trying to fit in the missed holes where possible.

Men are asked to wear golf slacks and collared or mock neck golf shirts; golf shorts are acceptable but must be no shorter than mid-thigh. Women may wear golf skirts, dresses, slacks, culottes or golf shorts no shorter than mid-thigh, and shirts without a collar must have sleeves. Soft spikes or soft-soled golf shoes are mandatory.

Golf carts are mandatory on the Jones Masterpiece. Both occupants of each cart must sign a cart rental agreement before every round, and damage incurred during the rental may be charged. Non-golfing riders are permitted for a rider fee when cart inventory allows. Cart paths must be used around greens and tees, carts should stay at least 30 yards from greens and tees, and the resort may restrict carts to paths in inclement weather.

One bucket of range balls is included before the round, and additional balls may be purchased in the pro shop. The range opens 30 minutes prior to the first tee time each day, and it closes one night each week for a clean pick and mow.

There are two pro shops on the property carrying a selection of brand-name shoes and equipment. Ship Sticks club shipping is available to the resort.

Outside food and beverage are not permitted on the golf courses, and personal coolers are not allowed; any outside items found are held and returned after the round. Under State of Michigan law, no outside alcohol is allowed on the golf courses.

The posted pace of play target for the Masterpiece is 4 hours 45 minutes, and ready golf is encouraged when safe. Groups are asked to keep up with the group ahead rather than worry about the group behind. If a group falls behind, a ranger or player assistant will provide reminders and may reposition the group, which can mean skipping a hole; in rare cases a round may be concluded early.

Tee times are sold in foursomes, a credit card is required to hold a reservation, and smaller groups may be paired with other golfers unless they pay for a full foursome. Cancellations must be made more than 48 hours in advance for a full refund; cancellations inside 48 hours and no-shows are charged in full, and groups of 24 or more need at least 7 days. Rain checks are issued when the course is unplayable or closed due to weather, based on holes completed: a full 18-hole rain check through 4 holes, a 9-hole rain check for holes 5-14, and none after hole 15. Nine-hole rates apply only to the Tradition and Threetops courses, though the pro shop can periodically accommodate 9 holes on the Masterpiece; all golfers driving a cart must have a valid driver's license.
