Favor the right-center of the fairway. The wind and a shallow green make the approach difficult.

A short par 4 where placement matters: out of bounds left, water right, and a deep green.

A short par 3 over water. Check the wind and aim for the middle of the green.

A driver hole; favor right-center to stay away from out of bounds on the left.

Lay up rather than hit driver, aiming for the 150-yard marker as the fairway narrows. The second shot plays long to an elevated green.

Favor right-center off the tee, away from tall grass on the left, then play the second shot right for a better angle to a sloping green.

An open, downhill driving hole. The second shot often plays into the wind and longer than the yardage.

A par 3 that plays longer than it looks, usually into the wind. The farther right the pin, the more club you need.

A tight par 5 where driver is not always the play. Lay up near the 150-yard marker to stay clear of water on the left of the green.

A dogleg left; favor the right side off the tee. Trouble surrounds the green, so aim for the middle.

A downhill par 3 from an elevated tee to a deep, well-bunkered green.

Water runs the entire right side. Line up left of the 150-yard post and take plenty of club, as the fairway narrows.

A long par 5 with a forced carry over water off the tee and water in front of the green. Favor the left off the tee.

Favor the right side for a clear view of the two-tiered green, and pay attention to the pin position.

A short par 3 with a very deep green split by a swale. The Hilton Head lighthouse stands behind it.

A short par 4 with plenty of trouble. Favor the left off the tee; pin positions on the deep green can vary by up to 20 yards.

The landing area is deeper than it looks. The green is guarded by water in front, out of bounds left and woods behind.

A par 5 that bends right then left. Favor the right on the second shot; large mounds guard the front left of the green.
