The Dunes Golf & Beach Club
Plan your round at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club
The Dunes Golf & Beach Club is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design on the oceanfront north end of Myrtle Beach, the second course built on the Grand Strand. It plays through old oaks with water in play on more than half the holes, elevated greens guarded by deep white-sand bunkers, and one look at the Atlantic on the 9th. Rees Jones has refined it since the early 2000s without rerouting any holes. It is best known for the par-5 13th, Waterloo, which bends around Lake Singleton, and it has hosted the 1962 U.S. Women's Open, PGA Tour Q-School, and the PGA Tour's Myrtle Beach Classic. Par 72, 7,362 yards from the Gold tees.

Hole 1

Hole 2
296
yds ·Green
A dogleg left where the drive has to clear the corner; the fairway bunker on the right is reachable for long hitters, so favor the left side. Deep bunkers sit short of the green on both sides, with small ponds left and right waiting for a loose second shot.
Hole 3
366
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 4
409
yds ·Green
A par 5 that bends left, with bunkers guarding the left side of the fairway and trees down the right. Good drives open up a chance to go for it in two, but water and four bunkers protect the green, which slopes from back to front.
Hole 5
140
yds ·Green
A long par 3 that usually plays into the wind, so a low, penetrating iron is the play. A big bunker guards the left and a smaller one sits short right of an elevated green that is hard to hold.
Hole 6
315
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 7
296
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 8
463
yds ·Green
A long par 5 for members (the pros play it as a par 4 in the Myrtle Beach Classic, where it was the toughest hole) with a relatively narrow fairway. The green tilts hard from left to right, so distance control on the approach matters.
Hole 9
116
yds ·Green
The one hole that plays toward the Atlantic, and wind off the water is always a factor. Four deep bunkers guard an elevated green that is much wider than it is deep, so take care with the yardage.
Hole 10
315
yds ·Green
A short par 4 where driver isn't needed: one pond sits in front of the tee and another is in reach of the landing area, with the fairway sloping toward it. Lay up to a comfortable wedge into an elevated, domed green with three bunkers in front and one behind.
Hole 11
351
yds ·Green
A par 4 that runs along the Singleton Swash marsh, with trees buffering the marsh before the fairway turns sharply right. Water fronts the green, so accuracy pays more than length.
Hole 12
149
yds ·Green
An all-carry par 3 over the salt-water marsh of Singleton Swash, with wind off the ocean and across the lake pushing the ball. A front pin is risky to attack; the middle of the green is a good result.
Hole 13
520
yds ·Green
Waterloo, the signature hole: a crescent-shaped par 5 that turns about 90 degrees right around Lake Singleton, with the fairway narrowing as it reaches the corner. A slice or push finds the water, and only long, accurate drives make carrying the lake in two realistic. Most players lay up and play uphill to a two-tiered, well-bunkered green; watch for alligators by the lake.
Hole 14
291
yds ·Green
A long par 4 that doglegs gently left into the prevailing wind, with the fairway tightening in the landing area. It was the hardest hole to birdie in the Myrtle Beach Classic, and the green is tricky.
Hole 15
430
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 16
320
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 17
138
yds ·Green
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 18
345
yds ·Green
A long finishing par 4 where trees and pine straw wait left of the fairway. A pond fronts the green with a bunker short right, so a front pin is risky to chase.
