Miacomet is Nantucket's only 18-hole public golf course, a links-style layout about a mile from the ocean and three miles from town. It is owned by the Nantucket Island Land Bank. The club says it grew from nine to 18 holes in 2003 under architect Howard Maurer, who renovated the original holes in 2008. It plays to par 72 and 6,890 yards from the back tees (73.6 rating, 128 slope), with greens from about 3,000 to 6,000 square feet.

Know before you go

  • Check in at the golf shop at least 15 minutes before your tee time
  • Bring a full set of clubs in a bag
  • Collared or mock-neck shirt for men; no denim, tank tops, t-shirts or sandals
  • Stay out of the environmentally sensitive areas on holes 4, 13 and 14
  • Plan for 4 hours 20 minutes or less for a foursome

Arrival & check-in

All players must check in at the golf shop at least 15 minutes before their tee time. Ferries and flights reach the island often in summer, and the course is a short ride from the harbor and the airport.

Dress code

Men's shirts need a collar or mock neck, and women may wear appropriate golf attire. Denim, cut-off shorts, tank tops, t-shirts and sandals or flip-flops are not allowed. Running shoes and sneakers are acceptable.

Carts & walking

Golf cars must be assigned and registered in the golf shop, and drivers must be 21 or older with a valid license. Keep cars out of high rough and away from greens and tees. Ride-along non-golfers are not allowed on the course.

Practice facilities

The practice facility has a full driving range plus a chipping and putting area. It is open year round on the same hours as the course. Golf instruction and adult clinics run through the golf school.

Food & drink

The on-site restaurant takes reservations online or by phone and serves lunch and dinner on most days. Monday and Tuesday are bar only, and Wednesday and Sunday are lunch only.

Pace of play

Foursomes are expected to finish 18 holes in a maximum of 4 hours 20 minutes. Rangers and the starter have authority to keep play moving, and twosomes and singles may be paired at busy times.

Policies

All players must carry a full set of clubs in a bag, and dogs are not allowed on the course. Out of bounds is marked with white stakes on holes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 15 and 16. Environmentally sensitive areas on holes 4, 13 and 14 are off limits and play as lateral water hazards. Groups of at least 12 can arrange outings through the Director of Golf.
