Mid Pines
Plan your round at Mid Pines
Mid Pines is a Donald Ross design that opened in 1921 in Southern Pines, North Carolina, and was restored by Kyle Franz in 2013. The routing runs through sandhills pines with rolling fairways, crowned greens and a finish within sight of the historic inn. It plays to a par of 72 and about 6,700 yards from the Medal tees (73.5 / 142). Sister course Pine Needles is next door.

Hole 1
365
yds ·Regular
Elevated tee shot to a broad fairway framed by pines. The green sits on a far hillock with four bunkers cut into the hillside and has a deep, rolling surface.
Hole 2
165
yds ·Regular
A one-shotter between two high points. The green is crowned and falls away on all sides, so a miss leaves a tricky chip.
Hole 3
385
yds ·Regular
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 4
285
yds ·Regular
Short but deceptive. The plateau green angles away to the right and narrows at the back, and trees on the right make the wrong side costly.
Hole 5
445
yds ·Regular
The bunkers here are cut into a hillock and look more dramatic than those on the flatter holes.
Hole 6
465
yds ·Regular
A long par 5 where the fairway was widened to the right, giving a choice of going long down the left or laying up to the right. A restored bunker guards the green.
Hole 7
365
yds ·Regular
A straight corridor with subtle fairway contours; the level area on the left is the best spot to hit from. The green drops about four feet from back to front, with a bunker short.
Hole 8
155
yds ·Regular
A sharply downhill par 3. The green was rebuilt in the 2013 restoration.
Hole 9
315
yds ·Regular

Hole 10
485
yds ·Regular
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 11
145
yds ·Regular
A short par 3 to a long, narrow green on a high spot. A knob at front right kicks shots toward back pins, and wind matters more since trees were cleared.
Hole 12
365
yds ·Regular
The green is long and narrow, angled from front left to back right, with bunkers on both sides. Approaches from the right are awkward.
Hole 13
195
yds ·Regular
A long par 3 that often calls for a wood. The open front and a right-to-left slope let you run the ball onto the green.
Hole 14
345
yds ·Regular
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 15
485
yds ·Regular
A par 5 with layup and go-for-it options. A draw over the left edge of the right-hand bunker catches the fairway slope, but the sloping lie makes a clean second shot hard.
Hole 16
385
yds ·Regular
Played from a high tee down into a valley. The domed green is highest in the middle, where scores tend to add up, and a right-side bunker complex catches drives pulled left.
Hole 17
365
yds ·Regular
A dogleg right that rewards a fade off the tee. A cautious tee shot to the left leaves an approach over two bunkers at the left front of the green.
Hole 18
385
yds ·Regular
A downhill finisher from an elevated tee with a slight turn left. The green slopes back to front and sits in view of the inn.
