Southern Pines Golf Club is a public Donald Ross design that opened in 1906 as nine holes and grew to 18 in 1910. It rolls over knolls and ridges in the North Carolina Sandhills and was restored by Kyle Franz in 2021, with wider fairways, rebuilt bunkers and a new par 3 inspired by a Ross hole that was lost. It plays to par 71 and about 6,300 yards from the Blue tees (rating 72.0, slope 135), and shares ownership with Pine Needles and Mid Pines.

Everything to know on arrival
Know before you go
- Book early for spring and fall, since tee times for non-guests open 30 days out.
- Ask for rental clubs when you book if you need them.
- Expect to play a walkable layout; there are no caddies.
- Look for the Lost Hole, a par 3 added between holes 4 and 5, which you can choose to play.
- The ninth hole does not return to the clubhouse, so plan for that when you stop for food.
- Try the Overhills putting course after your round.
- Play by USGA rules; smooth your divots and footprints in the sand and natural areas.
Arrival & check-in
The club is at 290 Country Club Circle in Southern Pines. Raleigh-Durham is the closest major airport, under 70 miles away, and the club can arrange transportation on request when you book a stay. Clubs and luggage can be shipped ahead through Ship Sticks.

The routing is described as walkable on natural terrain. Caddie services are not currently offered.
Practice facilities
Overhills is an 18-hole putting course designed by Kyle Franz, open daily on a first-come, first-served basis to members, resort guests and local golfers. It has solar lighting for evening play. Guests also have access to the practice facilities and instruction programs at Pine Needles.
Rentals & pro shop
Rental clubs are available. Tell the reservations team when you book. An online golf shop is linked from the club's website.
Food & drink
The 1906 Grill serves breakfast and lunch in a casual setting, with items such as breakfast sandwiches, waffles, burgers, wraps, wings and smoothies.
Policies
The course is open to the public seven days a week, with closures only on select holidays and maintenance days. Outside golfers can book tee times up to 30 days ahead, online or by phone. The busiest seasons are mid-March to mid-May and mid-September through October, and green fees change with the season. Stay-and-play packages with Pine Needles and Mid Pines are also offered.
