States Golf Course is a family-owned public course in a country setting east of Schoolcraft and south of Portage, Michigan. The front nine is more open with large fairways, plentiful trees and larger greens, while the shorter back nine has smaller, firmer greens on an old clay base and tighter fairways that put a premium on precision. Greens on both nines are fairly flat but play tricky because of their speed, and the course has five sets of tees ranging from 6,171 yards down to 4,535 yards.
