Before you go

Everything to know on arrival

Know before you go

  • Check in at least 15 minutes before your tee time
  • Bring a valid driver's license if you plan to drive a cart
  • No outside food, beverages or personal coolers are allowed
  • Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for 1–8 players; longer notice for larger groups
  • Collared shirts (mocks count) and proper golf attire are required, including on the range

Arrival & check-in

Guests are advised to check in for their tee times at least 15 minutes in advance.

Dress code

Golfers and guests on the course, in the practice area and within the social areas of the clubhouse must wear appropriate attire. Men are asked to wear slacks or shorts with sleeved, collared shirts; mock collars are considered collared. Ladies may wear dresses, skirts, slacks or shorts with a blouse or golf shirt. Proper attire is also required for use of the driving range.

Carts & walking

Walking is allowed on the course at any time. Additional riders may accompany a group unless the course is busy and carts are at a premium; if an extra rider requires the group to take an additional cart, a fee is collected, otherwise no fee applies. All golfers must have a valid driver's license to drive a golf cart. Carts should be kept at least 30 yards from greens and tees, using cart paths near greens and tees and for the entire length of par 3 holes.

Practice facilities

The practice facility includes a full grass driving range, two practice putting greens, and a practice sand bunker and chipping area. Range balls are sold by the golf shop. Other than Monday night, when the range is clean picked and mowed, the driving range is open from 30 minutes before the first tee time until dusk.

Rentals & pro shop

The clubhouse includes a fully stocked pro shop.

Food & drink

The bar and grill has vaulted ceilings, five TVs and seating for over 100 guests, with views of Houghton Lake, plus patio seating overlooking the front nine. A beverage cart operates on the course. Outside food and beverages are not permitted anywhere on the premises, and personal coolers are prohibited on the golf course; items not purchased at The Quest will be held and returned at the end of the round.

Pace of play

The club asks the lead group to play in less than the pace of play target of 4:20, with all following groups maintaining that pace or keeping in line with the group ahead. As a guide, on par 3s the group ahead should be on the same hole or pulling away as you reach the tee; on par 4s they should be in the fairway or approaching the green; on par 5s they should be in the fairway. Golfers who prefer a slower pace can ask for a tee time, generally late afternoon, better suited to them.

Policies

Advance tee time reservations are taken without restriction and are made directly by the golf shop; singles, twosomes and threesomes are paired up whenever possible, and a group of fewer than four can pay for the full foursome to avoid pairing. Cancellations are required 24 hours in advance for 1–8 players, three days for groups of 12–23 and one week for groups of 24 or more; no-shows are charged the applicable rate. Fivesomes are generally prohibited and require General Manager approval. If play is stopped due to inclement weather before teeing off on hole 18, a rain check is issued for 100% of the value paid toward golf and cart.
