Highlands of Donegal hole by hole
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
Plays longer than its yardage, often into the wind, with water guarding the right side of the green.
Hole 2
A wide landing area. Favor the right side of the fairway; the green is elevated, so the approach plays longer.
Hole 3
A tough par 3 with water short and left of the green. Aim right and hit it precisely.
Hole 4
A dogleg with out of bounds on the right. Do not cut the corner too tightly, as bunkers and heather guard it.
Hole 5
A par 5 that needs careful management. Out of bounds runs down the left beside farmland, and water sits in front of and left of the green.
Hole 6
Often plays into the wind, and its length is deceptive because part of the fairway is hidden. Favor the right side.
Hole 7
Listed as a par 5/4 and the first of Charlie's Corner. Keep the tee shot left of the bunkers and lay up about 180 to 200 yards; the third shot plays shorter than the yardage.
Hole 8
Club selection matters on this par 3, which plays shorter than it looks. Long shots often finish in water, and a deep bunker sits on the right.
Hole 9
Known as a round wrecker: short but tricky. The ideal tee shot is about 170 yards, favoring the right side of the fairway.
Hole 10
The fairway slopes right to left, so aim the tee shot at the right fairway bunker. There is extra room on the left.
Hole 11
Trouble on both sides off the tee. Aim at the left edge of the bunker; a 200-yard drive leaves a short iron in.
Hole 12
A par 3 that plays uphill and usually into the wind. The green is large, so take enough club.
Hole 13
Needs about a 180-yard carry from the white tees, and hidden bunkers guard the green. Most players will need three shots.
Hole 14
Short and straight and downhill. A 200-yard tee shot stops just short of the bunkers, and the approach needs less club.
Hole 15
A sharp dogleg right with out of bounds down the right. Do not cut the corner unless you hit it long; a good birdie chance.
Hole 16
A par 3 where you should hit it high to carry the bunker at the front left. It plays shorter than the yardage.
Hole 17
Aim the tee shot just left of the right fairway bunker and make sure you have the length. Going over the green causes trouble.
Hole 18
A long finishing hole. Aim the approach at Charlie's chimney, and favor the left side because water is right of the green.
