Pasatiempo is an Alister MacKenzie design that opened in 1929 in the hills above Santa Cruz, with Tom Doak consulting since 1996 and a 2023-24 rebuild of all greens and bunkers. The par 70 course plays 6,495 yards from the Gold tees (72.7 rating, 143 slope) over rolling, hilly ground with large barrancas and MacKenzie's artistic bunkering. It is semi-private: members play most times, and select tee times are set aside for the public.

Know before you go
- Book through the club's tee-time page; public times are limited and the regular booking window is 7 days.
- Collared shirt required; no denim, tank tops or cut-offs.
- Bring approved soft-spike golf shoes.
- Plan for hills if walking; carts and push carts are available.
- Book a caddie at least 24 hours ahead through the pro shop.
- Read the local rules: you may not hit the 11th tee shot over the 12th green.
- Putt from the green; no chipping from the putting surface.
- There are drop zones on holes 16 and 18.
Dress code
Collared shirts are required, and denim, tank tops and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Shorts are fine but not cut-offs, cargo or athletic shorts, and hats must be worn bill forward. Golf shoes must be approved by the pro shop and metal spikes are not allowed.
Carts & walking
Electric carts and push/pull carts are available. The course is very walkable, with each tee close to the previous green, but it is hilly with real elevation changes. Caddies are available if booked through the pro shop at least 24 hours ahead.
Practice facilities
A driving range sits near the first green, with shuttle service from the first tee, and a practice area beside the first tee has a large putting green, a chipping green and a bunker. Lessons, individual or group, are by appointment through the pro shop.

The Hollins House restaurant and The Tap Room, and the MacKenzie Bar & Grill, are on site.
Policies
Public play is limited to the tee times the club sets aside, and early weekend and holiday times are often reserved for members. Regular tee times can be booked up to 7 days ahead, while Priority Reservations (1 to 16 golfers) open up to 365 days ahead; those fees are non-refundable and guaranteed only if you cancel or change at least 10 days before. A temporary rule requires putting on the newly rebuilt greens (no chipping from the green).
