The Greenbrier – Old White TPC
Plan your round at The Greenbrier – Old White TPC
The Old White is the Greenbrier resort's original 18-hole course, designed by Charles Blair Macdonald with Seth Raynor and opened in 1914 in the mountains of White Sulphur Springs. It is a par 70 playing 7,246 yards from the Black tees (76.0 rating, 145 slope) and is built around Macdonald template holes including the Biarritz 3rd, Redan 8th, Alps 13th and Eden 15th. It hosted the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic from 2010 to 2019 and was restored by Keith Foster after the 2016 flood, reopening in 2017.

The Greenbrier – Old White TPC hole by hole
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
428
yds ·Blue
A tee shot left of center gives a clear view of the whole green. Approaches from the right must carry a deep bunker guarding the right side, and a layup has to deal with a cross bunker short of the green.
Hole 2
378
yds ·Blue
Hog's Back. A drive over Howard's Creek to the right of center, near the fairway bunker, gives the best angle. Play safe left and the Hog's Back ridge, which runs the length of the fairway and through the green, comes into play on the approach.
Hole 3
197
yds ·Blue
Biarritz. A long, straight shot with the right club is needed to reach the correct level of a large green split by a Valley of Sin.
Hole 4
398
yds ·Blue
Racetrack. Two well-placed bunkers sit off the tee, and the fastest route is two straight shots. Miss either side of the green and a pair of greenside bunkers come into play.
Hole 5
330
yds ·Blue
Mounds. A drive right of center leaves the best angle to every hole location. Play safe up the left side and the mounds strategy quickly becomes clear.
Hole 6
436
yds ·Blue
Lookout. This is the number 1 handicap hole. Length and nerve are needed to hit a sloping fairway down the right and avoid the fairway bunker; the safe left side brings two deep greenside bunkers into play.
Hole 7
380
yds ·Blue
Plateau. A tee shot left of center and hit the right distance sets up the best angle into a plateau green ringed by six bunkers.
Hole 8
180
yds ·Blue
Redan, modeled on the 15th at North Berwick. A right-to-left running shot can reach any pin on this green, and a miss left brings the course's deepest bunker into play.
Hole 9
383
yds ·Blue
Punchbowl. A drive right of center gives the best angle to the punchbowl green. The safe left side leaves a hard approach over a very deep front-left bunker, and a cross bunker short of the green affects a layup.
Hole 10
344
yds ·Blue
Principal's Nose. Play either side of the Nose for a clear view of the green; right lets you attack the pin, left leaves a green that slopes away. Straight down the middle, the green is hidden.
Hole 11
412
yds ·Blue
Meadow. Cutting the corner over the sand leaves a shorter second with a clear view of the green. Playing safe right makes the hole much longer, and two cross bunkers add deception to the approach.
Hole 12
536
yds ·Blue
Long, the first par 5 on the back and the second-hardest hole. A drive that carries the cross bunker takes the shortest route; the safe line left of center has a fairway bunker and a creek crossing right to left. The green has a false front that rejects shots landing short.
Hole 13
414
yds ·Blue
Alps, with the concept taken from the 17th at Prestwick. A drive long and left of center near Howard's Creek gives an open view of the green. Cutting the corner shortens the approach, which must deal with the Alps feature.
Hole 14
344
yds ·Blue
Narrows, with the concept from the 15th at Muirfield. The drive must avoid the right fairway bunker while offering a bold line up the left. The small elevated green has a false front, so club selection matters.
Hole 15
188
yds ·Blue
Eden, modeled on the 11th at St. Andrews. Keep the tee shot below the hole, as the green slopes sharply back to front. Avoid the deep Strath pot bunker in front and the Hill bunker on the left; long finds the Eden bunkers.
Hole 16
379
yds ·Blue
Cape. Swan Lake sits right of the driving area and a penalizing fairway bunker guards the left. Playing away from the water leaves a demanding approach past two greenside bunkers.
Hole 17
555
yds ·Blue
Oaks, with a risk/reward drive like the Road Hole at St. Andrews. Long hitters who put the drive right of center near Howard's Creek may reach in two. Safe left, the fairway bunkers and the large Sahara bunker down the right side have to be managed to reach an undulating green.
Hole 18
144
yds ·Blue
Home. A short iron for most players to a green split by a horseshoe ridge. Par or birdie is on if you pick the right club; otherwise you need a good touch with the putter or from the sand.
