Sand Valley
Plan your round at Sand Valley
Sand Valley is the original course at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and opened in 2017. It is routed across ancient inland sand dunes among jack pines, with big exposed sand areas, firm and fast fairways, large contoured greens and plenty of strategic options. The par-72 course plays 6,959 yards from the Black tees (74.5/140) and is walking only.

Sand Valley hole by hole
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
243
yds ·Green
A gentle opener off the tee, with plenty of room to land the first drive across open sand-barren ground. The approach is the hard part: it plays uphill to a small, tiered green with deep bunkers on both sides, so pick the right level.
Hole 2
338
yds ·Green
The drive offers a choice between a shorter line and a better angle into the green. The second plays uphill over two big cross bunkers to a green that tilts from high back right to low front left, with steep falloffs left, right and long.
Hole 3
153
yds ·Green
A long par 3 to a green guarded by a big mound short right and a bunker that starts short of the green and runs its full length on the left. Shots missed right tend to kick into a collection area below the green.
Hole 4
415
yds ·Green
The longest hole and the number 1 handicap, climbing over rumpled ground to a green set just below a high point. The green is subtly contoured and ringed by bunkers and slopes, and it accepts both high approaches and shots run in along the ground.
Hole 5
147
yds ·Green
A short par 3 played from a hilltop tee down to a domed green that sheds anything slightly off line. There are no easy putts on this surface, so par is a good score.
Hole 6
380
yds ·Green
A strong par 4 through a rumpled fairway where staggered bunkers set up different lines and angles. The large green has a bunker in front on the right and slopes and runoffs all around it.
Hole 7
459
yds ·Green
A big sand dune runs down the right side, and the uphill fairway is angled so longer hitters can't see where the drive lands. A long, angled bunker splits the fairway, and a mound and bunker front right make a back-right pin hard to get at.
Hole 8
89
yds ·Green
The shortest hole plays uphill to a green on the skyline, with a deep bunker short right waiting for anything that comes up short. The green is deeper than it looks and divided into sections, so club for the correct tier.
Hole 9
235
yds ·Green
A short, driveable par 4. The fairway heaves, but there are flatter spots left and right that set up a cleaner pitch in; a bunker sits on the right, and the right position depends on the day's pin.
Hole 10
461
yds ·Green
A downhill par 5 to a fairway split by a large centerline bunker. The big green sits in a bowl with several distinct sections, and a large bunker on the right ties into the open sand barren.
Hole 11
306
yds ·Green
A cape-style par 4 where the hole narrows as it approaches the green. The right side of the green falls away sharply, so a slightly missed approach can finish 20 or more paces down the slope.
Hole 12
438
yds ·Green
A shorter par 5 where long hitters can carry the trees in the middle of the hole. A bunker sits front center on the approach to the elevated green; the high slope on the left can feed balls toward the middle, but going long leaves a deep runoff.
Hole 13
311
yds ·Green
A par 4 that bends gently left and climbs to a green perched on the skyline. Take enough club on the uphill approach.
Hole 14
121
yds ·Green
A downhill par 3 with sand on three sides of an angled, tilted green. The elevated tee is exposed to the wind while the green sits where it swirls, and the green's tilt and internal contours make two-putting a challenge.
Hole 15
352
yds ·Green
A gentle dogleg left over fairly flat ground. Two humps sit in front of the green, so plan the approach around where the pin is relative to them; the green has some of the most interesting contours on the course.
Hole 16
375
yds ·Green
Two centerline bunkers define this par 4, one in the drive zone and one guarding the skyline green. Some pins are easier to reach by playing long and using the slope at the back left to bring the ball back.
Hole 17
162
yds ·Green
A long par 3 that rises over a hill and drops into a large punchbowl green, a nod to classic punchbowls such as Chicago Golf Club's. The green is split into plateaus and hollows, so the lag putt can be tougher than the tee shot.
Hole 18
455
yds ·Green
The finisher climbs back up to the high point of the property along a bunker-lined fairway. The huge, multi-tiered green wraps around a large bunker on the right, so know which tier the pin is on before hitting in.

Arrival & check-in
The resort is at 597 Leopold Way in Nekoosa, about 25 minutes from Wisconsin Rapids and roughly 1 hour 40 minutes from Madison. A 24-hour shuttle runs between the clubhouse, golf shop, lodging and the first tees, and it can also take you to your car. If you booked a caddie, Guest Services introduces them at the first tee about 15 to 20 minutes before your tee time, so plan to be there by then.
Carts & walking
All courses at Sand Valley are walking only, and a round here covers more than six miles. Caddies are strongly encouraged; most carry two bags, single-bag requests are usually filled by junior caddies, and fore caddies are offered for groups of 2 to 4. Request a caddie at least a week ahead through caddie services. The caddie fee is paid directly to the caddie plus gratuity, and the golf shop can provide caddie cash charged to your room. Push carts can be rented or you can bring your own (motorized pull carts struggle in the sand), and riding carts are available only for guests with a medical need, arranged in advance.

Policies
Golf-only bookings must be changed or cancelled at least 30 days before arrival or the deposit is forfeited; stay-and-play packages have their own notice windows depending on the season. If you choose not to play because of weather, tell the golf shop while on property and you'll be charged and given a voucher for future golf, but once you tee off you are committed to the round. Replay rounds can be cancelled at any time. Day-guest tee times open on a schedule the resort announces each year, so check the booking page or sign up for its newsletter. Drones are not allowed, and the courses close for the winter.
