Blackwolf Run – River Course
Plan your round at Blackwolf Run – River Course
The River Course at Blackwolf Run is a Pete Dye design in Kohler, Wisconsin, routed through a glacial river valley and along bluffs beside the Sheboygan River. Dye described it as found rather than built. Blackwolf Run opened in 1988 and became 36 holes by 1990, and the River hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 1998 and 2012 (as part of a composite course). It plays to par 72 and 7,404 yards from the Black tees (76.2 / 151).

Blackwolf Run – River Course hole by hole
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
526
yds ·Green
A 610-yard par 5 from the back tees with generous room to miss off the tee, so the opener is mostly about reaching the fast, double-breaking green in three well placed shots.
Hole 2
355
yds ·Green
Not a driver hole for most players. Mounding on the right and tall grass left and behind the green favor a hybrid or fairway wood off the tee and a wedge in.
Hole 3
395
yds ·Green
A long par 4 and the number 1 handicap, with a signature Dye bunker on the right. Stay left on the approach and expect a fast green.
Hole 4
185
yds ·Green
A long par 3 with a steep drop to the lake down the entire right side and rocks along the green. Aim left, where the bailout is.
Hole 5
388
yds ·Green
Known as Made in Heaven. The tee is high above a fairway reached through trees, and the green is elevated on a plateau that slopes away from left to right, so the approach is the hard part.
Hole 6
333
yds ·Green
A short dogleg right where a long, straight drive can run out of play. Expect an uneven lie and favor the left side of the green, since sand and a drop-off guard the right.
Hole 7
374
yds ·Green
A ravine to carry off the tee, uneven fairways, a bunker left and a deep bunker at the base of the green.
Hole 8
492
yds ·Green
A downhill tee shot through trees to a dogleg right with a split fairway. The high side is the better route to the green in two, and the low side is the better layup line.
Hole 9
316
yds ·Green
A short, driveable par 4 with three fairway options and a tree in the middle, with trees, bunkers and the Sheboygan River in play on the right. Playing safe to the left is the easier route.
Hole 10
194
yds ·Green
A long par 3 with sand short and right and water beyond it. If you cannot reach the green, bail out short and left.
Hole 11
536
yds ·Green
A long dogleg right along the Sheboygan River with trees at the corner. The second shot decides how much water to carry to a large green set behind it.
Hole 12
423
yds ·Green
Called Long Lagoon. The tee shot plays over a lagoon, and the carry shrinks the farther right you aim, though bailing out right leaves a tricky next shot. It is the number 2 handicap.
Hole 13
150
yds ·Green
Called Tall Timber. A large tree blocks the line from most tee boxes on this par 3, and the back tee plays over the river.
Hole 14
304
yds ·Green
A short dogleg left around a lake. Aim right for a safer line or cut the corner for a shorter approach.
Hole 15
346
yds ·Green
A shortish par 4 with a green tucked down. A serious bunker sits on the left and shots hitting the berm roll back into it, so stay right.
Hole 16
540
yds ·Green
A long par 5 that bends right off the tee and back left around the river at the green. A good drive rolls down the hill, with a Dye bunker left and trees right.
Hole 17
168
yds ·Green
A par 3 with water along the front and left of the green. Take enough club to clear it.
Hole 18
440
yds ·Green
A long closing par 4 that doglegs left and plays slightly uphill, with a bunker running the full left side and the clubhouse behind. The green is a double green shared with Meadow Valleys.
