Pine Needles
Plan your round at Pine Needles
Pine Needles is a Donald Ross design from 1927 in Southern Pines, North Carolina, restored by Kyle Franz in 2017. It was the first course to host four U.S. Women's Opens, most recently in 2022, and Golfweek ranks it fifth in North Carolina. The par 71 layout plays over 7,000 yards from the Medal tees (74.7 / 141) through sandhills pines and native wiregrass areas.

Pine Needles hole by hole
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
470
yds ·White
A gentle dogleg right where the drive can flirt with the inside bunker for the shortest route in two. A bunker pinches the fairway short of the green, and a right pin can turn two shots into three.
Hole 2
435
yds ·White
A broad fairway with a crest running diagonally left to right; the left side gets extra roll while the right side can kill the ball. The green is wider than deep and open in front, so it suits a ground game.
Hole 3
125
yds ·White
A short par 3 with a photogenic green restored to Ross's original outline, about 20 percent smaller than before.
Hole 4
335
yds ·White
The tee shot is level but crosses water, and the approach is sharply uphill, the only uphill approach on the course.
Hole 5
170
yds ·White
A one-shot hole across a valley to a domed green with a false front that sends weak shots trickling back.
Hole 6
375
yds ·White
A long par 4 where drives into the hillside lose run unless they find the crests. A deep right bunker guards a green that slopes toward it.
Hole 7
365
yds ·White
Another long par 4 where the hill crests decide how much roll you get off the tee.
Hole 8
320
yds ·White
A shorter par 4 routed through a natural valley. The green is protected by a deep primary bunker and a deepened front right bunker.
Hole 9
350
yds ·White
A wide fairway leads to a narrow green. Playing from the right-middle gives a straight approach; otherwise a hollow on the right or a big left bunker comes into play.
Hole 10
460
yds ·White
A dogleg left with a prominent bunker on the inside corner, restored to its original size. Carrying or flirting with it sets up a chance to reach the green in two.
Hole 11
345
yds ·White
The tee, landing area and green are the three high spots, and the best line skips between them to avoid the valleys.
Hole 12
325
yds ·White
The fairway looks wide but the green is open in front only on the right. Approaches from the left must carry greenside bunkers.
Hole 13
160
yds ·White
A downhill par 3 to a deep green. Bunkers sit well short of the putting surface, and a hidden swale rings the narrow green.
Hole 14
395
yds ·White
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 15
465
yds ·White
A three-shot par 5 with a grassy swale about 35 paces short of the green. The right-to-left slope of the fairway punishes hooks.
Hole 16
165
yds ·White
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 17
415
yds ·White
No notes for this hole yet.
Hole 18
375
yds ·White
The home hole plays downhill to the green over a broad fairway that slopes right to left.
