Old Macdonald
Plan your round at Old Macdonald
Old Macdonald is the fourth course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, designed by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina and opened in 2010 as a tribute to C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor. Its holes are modeled on classic template holes such as Eden, Biarritz, Redan, Alps and Punchbowl, set on wide, rolling links ground above the Pacific on the southern Oregon coast. Wind and big shared fairways define play. Par 71, 6,944 yards from the Black tees (74.4 / 131).

Walk the course
Par 3Par 4Par 5
Hole 1
275
yds ·Gold
Double Plateau. A shorter par 4 into the prevailing wind that rewards a tee shot in the fairway; the green has two levels, so the approach needs to find the right plateau.
Hole 2
139
yds ·Gold
Eden. A par 3 with a green that slopes back to front and is guarded by bunkers. Wind and pin position decide the club.
Hole 3
312
yds ·Gold
Sahara. The tee shot is blind over a dune, and a bare Port Orford cedar (the ghost tree) on the crest gives you your line.
Hole 4
441
yds ·Gold
Hog's Back. The course's number 1 handicap hole at 504 yards from the back tee, named for the hog's back feature in the fairway.
Hole 5
121
yds ·Gold
Short. A short par 3 with a big, deep-bunkered, heavily undulating green and many pin positions. A two-putt par is a fine result.
Hole 6
467
yds ·Gold
Long. The longest hole on the course, a par 5 that plays directly into the wind.
Hole 7
322
yds ·Gold
Ocean. A par 4 and the course's big ocean reveal; the green sits elevated between dunes.
Hole 8
152
yds ·Gold
Biarritz. A par 3 named for the swale across the middle of the green, so the pin location relative to the dip matters. Expect a wait on the next tee while groups take photos.
Hole 9
343
yds ·Gold
Cape. The par 4 that closes the front nine.
Hole 10
383
yds ·Gold
Bottle. A 465-yard par 4 where fairway bunkers pinch the landing area; pick a line and commit.
Hole 11
390
yds ·Gold
Road. Named for the St Andrews hole, though without a hotel off the tee. A par 4 of 445 yards from the back tee.
Hole 12
164
yds ·Gold
Redan. The longest par 3 on the course at 237 yards from the back tee.
Hole 13
253
yds ·Gold
Leven. A short par 4 of 346 yards, the lowest-ranked handicap hole on the card.
Hole 14
254
yds ·Gold
Maiden. A short par 4 that plays uphill; bunkers guard the direct line, there is room to bail out right, and a large dune behind the green catches long shots.
Hole 15
424
yds ·Gold
Westward Ho. A par 5 with plenty of sand in play.
Hole 16
408
yds ·Gold
Alps. The par 4 plays downhill, and the second shot is blind over a dune. A signal board on top of the dune helps with aim.
Hole 17
397
yds ·Gold
Littlestone. The last par 5. Ring the bell before you play so the group behind knows you are clear.
Hole 18
413
yds ·Gold
Punchbowl. A 469-yard par 4 to a large bowl green that funnels shots toward the middle. Missing right with an iron costs you some of that help.

Arrival & check-in
Old Macdonald sits next to the resort Practice Center on Round Lake Road. Putt and warm up there before your tee time. If you are staying on property you can skip the car, since a free resort shuttle runs 24 hours a day (call (541) 347-5894 or use the shuttle app).
Dress code
Casual golf attire is expected and only soft spikes are allowed. Denim is discouraged on the golf courses.
Carts & walking
This course, like every course at the resort, is walking only, and a round covers more than six miles. Caddies are encouraged and can be requested at (541) 347-5909; the caddie fee is paid directly to the caddie plus a tip, and group caddies are also available. Free push carts are provided, or bring your own (motorized pull carts can struggle in the sand). Riding carts are only for golfers with a permanent disability, must be arranged with documentation before arrival, and require a caddie.
Practice facilities
The resort Practice Center has two full ranges, a one-acre putting green, two short game areas and Charlotte's 9-hole par 3 course, open from first light until an hour before sunset. It is free for resort guests and anyone playing one of the courses; others can buy a day pass at a golf shop. The Punchbowl putting course sits next to the Pacific Dunes clubhouse.
Rentals & pro shop
Rental sets from TaylorMade, Titleist, Ping and Miura (right-hand, left-hand and ladies) are offered by the day with golf balls included. They are first come, first served, can't be reserved, and are picked up and returned at the Bandon Dunes Golf Shop. Non-guests leave an ID while renting. Club shipping through Ship Sticks is also supported.
Food & drink
Pacific Grill, on the second floor of the Pacific Dunes clubhouse, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; reservations are recommended and can be made up to six months ahead at (541) 347-8432.
Pace of play
Plan for a long walk: the resort says a round covers over six miles on foot. Caddies, including double-bag caddies, help keep groups moving. Check with the golf shop for current pace expectations.
Policies
Old Macdonald is open to the public, but resort guests get priority and lower rates. Day guests can book within 21 days of play, or further ahead at a premium rate for April through mid-November. Golf-only deposits are non-refundable inside 90 days. If you skip a round for weather, contact the golf shop for a voucher; once you tee off you are committed.
